Relationship between serum concentrations of uric acid, insulin resistance and metabolic alterations in adolescents

ABSTRACT Objective: To verify the possible relationship between serum uric acid concentrations and insulin resistance in adolescents. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with 74 participants from public school Sao Luis, Maranhao, aged 10 19 years. The was approved by Ethics Research Committee of University Hospital Universidade Federal do Maranhao (UFMA) under report 2,673,791. Anthropometric measurements, blood pressure collection were performed. divided into two groups: group 1 (with hyperuricemia) 2 (without hyperuricemia). Data analysis performed means Stata program. Results: such as body mass index waist circumference, had statistical significance (p < 0.05) among groups hyperuricemia without hyperuricemia, well percentage fat = 0.0423) systolic diastolic 0.0235). Conclusion: According obtained results, calculated presented high levels, demonstrating statistically significant correlation.
